BeatCrave presented a show with our friends over at I Promote Good Bands on Friday night at The Echoplex with Radars to the Sky as headliners and The Hectors, Rademacher, and One Trick Pony for an awesome lineup. As some of the bands in Los Angeles who have been making music for years, the night was filled with some fantastic sets and guest appearances. For those of you who missed out because of rain or Broken …

Radio Free Silver Lake
By Seamus Simpson
Last Friday I ventured out in the rain to see Radars to the Sky headline what seemed on paper to be a good show. I was wondering if the weather would get in the way or if people would brave the rain to see some good old-fashioned indie rock. To my surprise the kids did come.Radars_Callie_20
I walked in on the tail end of a great set by The Hectors. This seems to be the story of my life when connected to The Hectors. I always …

Last Saturday, One Trick Pony played a show at The Hotel Cafe. (well, technically since it was after midnight it was on Sunday, but since they were on Saturday’s bill, we’ll just leave it at that) The first time I had heard of One Trick Pony was when one of their songs “Loose Talk” was covered by Death To Anders at Radio Free Silverlake’s “Undercovered” show last year. The next month I only caught some of their set at the first of (with The …

We’ve been lucky enough to be on the list at Classical Geek Theatre for Best LA Local Recordings of 2009, plus ‘Phonebook’ made their list for Top 15 Songs of the year. See the partial article below, or see the full list of bands at the link here. Great list!
One Trick Pony - Full of Life - Absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful voice, beautiful lyrics, beautiful instrumentation. If I put it on it instantly changes my mood.

‘Full of Life’ makes the cut on Web in Front’s top 25 Local Albums of 2009.
What they say about the album:
“Quite possibly the most accurate album title of the year—this is an album brimming with life as it skips from one gorgeous example of everything right with indie folk after another. Seriously, if you can find a prettier song than “Phonebook” being performed in a local L.A. music club, I don’t want to hear it—this record has broken my heart enough this year as it is.”

The band had a great time playing the Happy Hollows residency show at Spaceland on Nov 23rd. Below is an article from the show written by Sarah, they were kind enough to say some nice words about us.

Residency Diaries are exactly what they sound like: the thoughts, musings, and scribbles of rock bands as they host a series of month-long shows in various Los Angeles venues. This month’s R.D. entries will be from the Happy Hollows, a band whose wild-eyed artpop bloodlust can be heard …

Thursday night at The Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock was the launch party for Sterling Andrews photo collection Gooseberries. It was a buzzing affair with writers, photogs, and (of course) musicians from all over Los Angeles attending to celebrate with Andrews, who has shot most all of the relevant bands in town.
I chatted with Sterling Andrews briefly about what’s next. “Another book,” she told me. Andrews was coy with the details, but she’s aiming for an adult-oriented photo story book in the …

I had a great time at the Where Gallery in Silverlake last Friday, March 6, 2009. It was the second reception for the exhibit called “EXPOSURE” featuring the work of three of our local music scene’s best photographers, Benjamin Hoste, Simon Cardoza and Jeff Koga.
Each Friday during the exhibit’s run the gallery hosts an evening of live acoustic music to lure people in and it’s a successful gimmick. The place was packed. And why wouldn’t it be with the promise of the public debut of …

One Trick Pony (Randolph Williams III and Jenny Teixeira with Charlene Huang and Josh Solberg) belong to a growing collective of artists who understands the value of carefully chosen words, spare arrangement, and no Caps Lock - as if punctuation matters in all aspects of the sound and the words; music that is conscious of the white space around the sound and between the notes; the echos behind and beneath every sound in the song; the incidental noises that pass unnoticed - like …
